Channel Hierarchy

Channel hierarchy lets you organize channels into logical groups for better reporting and analysis.

What is Channel Hierarchy?

Channel hierarchy creates a tree structure for grouping channels:
All Channels
├── Direct to Consumer
│ ├── Shopify US
│ ├── Shopify CA
│ └── Website
├── Marketplaces
│ ├── Amazon US
│ ├── Amazon UK
│ └── eBay
└── Wholesale
    ├── Distributor A
    └── Distributor B

Why Use Channel Hierarchy?

BenefitDescription
ReportingAggregate data at any level
FilteringFilter by category, not individual channels
OrganizationLogical grouping for navigation
AnalysisCompare performance across groups

│ ├── North America
│ │ ├── Shopify US
│ │ └── Shopify CA
│ └── Europe

Hierarchy and User Access

Channel hierarchy works with access control:
  • Grant access at any hierarchy level
  • Access flows down to children
  • Access to “Marketplace” = access to all marketplace channels
See User Access.

Best Practices

Design hierarchy to match how you manage the business:
  • How do you report performance?
  • How are teams organized?
  • What comparisons are meaningful?
Don’t over-engineer:
  • 2-3 levels is usually enough
  • More levels = more complexity
  • Start simple, add as needed
Use clear, consistent names:
  • Obvious what each level means
  • Consistent terminology
Consider future needs:
  • New regions?
  • New channel types?
  • Build flexibility in

Troubleshooting

Channel Not Appearing in Hierarchy

Possible causes:
  • Hierarchy values not assigned
  • Channel is archived
  • Hierarchy not fully configured
Solutions:
  1. Check channel’s hierarchy assignments
  2. Verify channel is active
  3. Review hierarchy configuration

Incorrect Totals

Possible causes:
  • Channel assigned to wrong level
  • Duplicate assignments
  • Missing channels
Solutions:
  1. Review channel assignments
  2. Ensure no duplicates
  3. Verify all channels are assigned
