SKU groups
SKU groups organize your catalog at/principal/sku-groups in the Principal Catalog section. There are two kinds: Primary SKU Groups, which define a product hierarchy with attributes (every SKU belongs to exactly one), and Standard groups, which are flat lists for cross-cutting purposes like assortments or planning.
Your organization may use different names for SKU groups. Administrators can rename catalog terms in Settings → Terminology. See Terminology.
Groups list
The list page splits groups into two tabs, each with a count: Primary SKU Groups and Standard. Both show Name and Description plus a member count; the primary tab adds hierarchy columns (such as Category and Subcategory, when enabled) and an attribute count.- Search by name or description, and filter with the Planning groups chip to find groups that carry demand aggregation.
- Click New sku group to create a group.
- Each row’s menu offers View details, Edit, Duplicate (standard groups only), and Delete. Deletion asks for confirmation and can fail if a policy still references the group.
Creating a group
In the create dialog, choose the Type — Standard or Primary SKU Group — then enter a Name and optional Description. Primary SKU Groups define a product hierarchy with attributes; Standard groups are flat lists. The type cannot be changed after creation. Primary groups can also be classified against your hierarchy levels.Group detail page
A group’s detail page shows its name, description, and tabs for Members, Inventory, Purchasing, Production, Storage, and Policies. Header actions depend on the group type:- Edit — always available with write access.
- Duplicate — standard groups only.
- Bulk Create SKUs — primary groups only.
Members grid
The Members tab lists the group’s SKUs with Code, Name, and the date each was Added. Names are editable inline with batched saves. Click a row to open that SKU’s detail page.Selecting and bulk actions
With write access, each row has a checkbox for multi-select. Selecting rows shows a selection bar with the count, a Clear link, and two bulk actions:- Move to… — move the selected SKUs to another group. The list offers only groups of the same type: standard-to-standard moves change secondary membership, while primary-to-primary moves re-point each SKU’s single primary group.
- Remove — remove the selected SKUs from the group. A confirmation dialog explains that this removes the membership only — the SKUs themselves are not deleted and can be re-added later.
Adding SKUs to a group
The add control differs by group type:- Standard groups — use the SKU picker to search by code or name, select several, and click Add. This adds secondary memberships without affecting each SKU’s primary group.
- Primary groups — the control is labeled Move SKUs into this group, because each SKU has exactly one primary group: moving a SKU in removes it from its current primary group. Each search result shows which group the SKU currently belongs to, and the button reads Move N into the group name.
Bulk Create SKUs wizard
On a primary group’s detail page, Bulk Create SKUs opens a five-step wizard that generates a SKU for every combination of selected attribute values:1
Attributes
For each attribute configured on the group, toggle the values to include. A running count shows how many SKUs will be generated (the product of your selections, for example 3 × 2).
2
Codes
Review and edit the generated code, name, and type for every combination. Codes default to the attribute value codes joined with hyphens; names join the value names. An optional Code prefix with Apply rewrites all codes at once.
3
Preview

4
Confirm
Confirm and click Create N SKUs.
5
Results
See created and failed counts. Failed rows can be edited and retried individually with Retry, or in bulk via Edit & Retry, which returns you to the Codes step.
Duplicating a group
For standard groups, Duplicate copies the group and all its members under a new name (pre-filled as the original name plus “(Copy)”). A Copy policies toggle also copies policies scoped directly to the group, rescoped onto the copy — this requires network write permission. Groups carrying a demand-aggregation policy can be duplicated only with Copy policies turned off, since the same SKUs can’t be aggregated in two groups.Policies tab
The Policies tab lists planning policies scoped to the group, grouped by domain, and lets you create new ones pre-scoped to it. Editing requires network write permission. Groups whose policies carry demand aggregation are badged as Planning group in the list and detail pages. Policies feed planning — see Supply planning.Best practices
Treat primary groups as products
Treat primary groups as products
Model each product as a primary group with attributes (Size, Color), and its variants as member SKUs. Use standard groups for everything else — assortments, launches, planning cohorts.
Prefer Bulk Create SKUs for variant matrices
Prefer Bulk Create SKUs for variant matrices
Generating variants from attribute combinations keeps codes and names consistent and creates the whole matrix in one pass, instead of hand-creating each SKU.
Move, don't re-add, between primary groups
Move, don't re-add, between primary groups
A SKU can only have one primary group. Use Move to… (or the move control on the destination group) so membership stays consistent — there is no way to add a second primary membership.
Check policy references before deleting a group
Check policy references before deleting a group
Group deletion fails if a policy still references it. Review the group’s Policies tab first and re-scope or remove policies before deleting.
